Minister Ndebele signs transport agreements with China
Beijing, China-Minister of Transport Sibusiso Ndebele today signed a ground-breaking agreement on railways and other transport -related matters with his counterpart Minister of Railways Mr Liu Zhijun in China. Minister Ndebele is part of the presidential delegation led by President Jacob Zuma during the state visit which started on 23 August 2010. The railways agreement recognizes the significant economic challenges and opportunities arising out of and consequential to relations between the two countries. It takes into consideration the framework of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the Forum on China-Africa Co-operation (FOCAC). The agreement recognises the need to find new approaches for consolidating, expanding and deepening the rapid developments in the transport sector between South and China. It aims at mutually beneficial cooperation with specific focus on empowerment that seeks to implement world-class projects on a win-win basis. It further seeks to promote investments, industry, trade and co-operation between South Africa and China in the area of rail. Continue reading »
